Standard sleep training and scheduling book

There isn't a lot of new information in this book apart from other books of similar thought process (scheduling and sleep training). There were parts I enjoyed and parts I didn't. I used the schedules as a guideline and liked the meal plan ideas for my older baby. I took the mantra "meal times should be fun and stress free" to heart and repeated it to myself daily! I didn't like how it recommended that baby foods be started by 4-5 months since I have not seen this supported anywhere else nor by my pediatrician. I did like how it gave some practical steps to transitioning to baby food, table food, and cups. If you do not like the idea of letting your baby learn to self-soothe to encourage sleeping through the night (which often includes letting them cry it out at first) then you won't like this book.

Just another Cry It Out book...with a bible-beating twist

So disappointing. I was optimistic because the book says "This is not another CIO (cry it out) book. We are working with the body’s natural rhythm and routines to establish healthy sleep habits that benefit the entire family." So, I was excited to see what their methods were. Skip to the next page and you realize they were flat out lying: "Then your job is to stay out of the room until 6:30-7:00 am. Let the baby cry on and off—even if the crying lasts over an hour or two! They will fall asleep. If you are consistent, after three to five nights they will sleep at bedtime, in their crib, and fall asleep almost immediately— but only if YOU do not go in their room and pick them up! Give it three to five nights. Yes, you can . . . really, we believe in you . . . YOU CAN DO IT!"
This type of parenting - ignoring your instincts and your baby's cry for help - is so wrong on so many levels. It's disrespectful, it causes deep disconnect, and it's cruel. This method may "work" but only because baby has given up on anyone comforting them. What a sad way to start life.
Oh yeah and there is so much god talk and bible verses, I wanted to puke.

Good resource for new moms with lots of questions

I definitely like the approach the authors used for this book. It is incredibly insightful and helped for first time moms who have a ton of questions like me. It provides great tips and techniques to try for you and your baby. Obviously it's just a book so no one is forcing you to use everything in the book if it's not your style. I read it and took bits and pieces that work for me and my baby and applied where needed. Great starter guide to helping with sleep training/schedules and feeding schedules to get into a good rhythm. My baby doesn't like the white noise so we use ocean sounds even though it doesn't recommend it it's okay because it works for us. I recommend this book for the common illnesses overview and recommendations, feeding schedules and sleep training recommendations. Take what you want from each and apply to your life and needs. If it doesn't work for you there are tons of other resources and just plain ole common sense as a mommy is something to use as well. Good resource overall. Honestly would have liked to paid a little less for the ebook than the current price but for the common illness section alone is worth it to help give peace of mind when those "what do I do moments" come up.
