Marie does a wonderful job writing a believable May/December romance. I loved Kate and Reid together this time around. As their story unfolds you can really feel that they belonged together, and that age is just a number. The heart loves who it loves. I think Marie got me, because Kate and Reid knew that anytime they had together was better than being apart. I melted and knew these two found their other half.

This book was truly about coming home. Kate comes home to the love and family she had been missing for the last ten years.

Thank you to all the readers who asked me to finish Reid and Kate's story. Back in 2005 when I wrote Marking Time, it never occurred to me that readers would want them to end up together. Boy, was I wrong about that! I've never gotten more mail about any story than I did about theirs. I hope you're pleased with their second act.

Returning to the Treading Water/Marking Time world was like spending time with precious old friends. Most of you know that Jack Harrington was my very first fictional character, so it was a great thrill for me to bring him back in Coming Home. I enjoyed the themes of forgiveness and redemption in this book, as well as the growth the characters experienced in the decade between Marking Time and Coming Home.

Magic...part 2! A fitting end to a great love story!

I'm a Marie Force fan. I discovered her by happy accident when I downloaded "Love at first flight" February 2011 and fell in love with Michael and Juliana. Since then, I've read every single one of her books and loved every single story. Marie Force is one of those rare authors who truly appreciates her fans and listens to her readers when they want more. That's why "Coming Home" was so eagerly anticipated for me. This is the closure story I was waiting for...Reid and Kate's story.

It's a stand alone book, but to me it wasn't because Kate and Reid's story began in "Marking Time". In that book, they were not the main characters, but Marie has such a way of writing her characters that all the stories within one book become important and so meaningful. Hence, Reid and Kate.

Reid is 28 years older than Kate. Yes, big gap, but age is just a number. You love who you love.This may turn off some readers, but for me, age was never an issue. Their relationship ended in "Marking Time" but they needed closure. They were truly magic for me. I kept thinking, "This can't be the end!" I was one of those shameless fans who needed closure. Their own book! There were so many people who disapproved of their relationship in "Marking Time" and despite Reid and Kate's love and passion for each other, how could they overcome that? Where's their happily ever after? I needed to know!

Well, in "Coming Home", I got my much needed closure. ***spoilers*** what I loved about this book is that when they finally see each other after 10 years, if felt right. She was older, she lived life, she matured. She knew she wanted Reid and never stopped loving him. When she finds him in St Kitts (fitting, since when they broke up 10 years before, he had retreated to that island and stayed) and once she finds him at the beach...it's like they were never apart. Sure, he moved on and was in a relationship with another woman. I got that, he was lonely but Kate was the only woman for him. I loved that after their first encounter whatever conflicts they encounter, they face it together. No secrets, which is what broke them up 10 years ago. I loved that, sometimes conflicts irritate me in stories because they can get so silly. Happily, it's not the case here. Kate realizes why he lied to her before and she owns up to her immature reaction. It's why she ended the relationship so long ago. Not now, she knows what she wants, and he wants her.

The setting of the ending was beautiful, romantic, and so right. Perfect. There is another story within "Coming Home" which is Jill's, Kate's sister. That was beautiful too because it involved Reid's son, Ashton. I couldn't have read a better ending for Kate and Reid. I waited a year for their rest of the story and I'm so happy Marie wrote it. She listened to her fans!

I would encourage readers to get the entire Treading Water series, Coming Home is book 4. And each once is truly wonderful. You won't be disappointed.

Love, Love, Love Marie Force

I discovered Marie Force quite a while ago when she was an indie author with only a few books out there. I immediately demolished every book she had out. I love her books. The story, the emotion, the background of the stories are wonderful. She has now become a much bigger Indie author and in some ways I feel like everyone has found out about my little wonderful secret. I am so happy for her and the fact that so many people have discovered Marie's incredible writing and stories. This is the forth in a series that the author states she tried to market to many publishers years ago but had no success. The first three books were released last year as an independent author e-book publication. I know that there are publishers who are kicking themselves now...as I am sure Marie is smiling everyday at their incredibly poor decision to not publish the first three books. This book continues the story of a the daughter of the original hero from the first book who has fallen in love with his friend who is over 25 years older then her. I am sure that when Marie wrote this she never thought people would love this couple but we all did and demanded their story. Marie, as usual, did not disappoint! Thank You Marie Force for many wonderful hours of reading enjoyment.

Plot ok, but way too many pages of nothing but sexual encounters

I loved the first books in this series, and I think this author writes well. However, in this book, although we all wanted to see the couple get back together and "live happily ever after," the entire book was filled with just one sex scene after another, first with the main couple and then with another family member. The scenes in most cases went on and on for 6 - 10 pages on my Kindle and could have been shortened. There was a storyline, and it was good, however I think the author had a specific number of pages to fill and so she filled them with nothing but bedroom (and other places) scenes. I hope to read more by Ms. Force, but hope the other books leave out so much sex -- I'm not a prude but did get tired of the descriptive scenes going on and on and I skipped a lot because they got tiring.

Paradise lost...

As a sincere lover of both Wodehouse and the Jeeves and Wooster stories, I found this particular entry to be frequently off-putting and less enjoyable than most other entries. As Waugh is quoted as noting, what makes Wodehouse wonderful is the sense one gets in reading his work of a timeless idyllic world; it could never realistically exist, but it is such a delight to visit. This novel, however, feels very much of its time and of this world, or perhaps a world that we are better shot of, so to speak.

There are the requisite share of moments that make one chuckle (the Pro-Con list comes to mind) but there are an equal if not greater number of moments that make one cringe. It functions perhaps more as a curio for the Wooster completist than as a necessary reading experience. Of course, your mileage may vary.

Hilarious English hijinks and humor!!

What a delightful romp this book, by P. G. Wodehouse, was to read! Wooster and Jeeves, his Gentleman’s Gentleman, get into so many hilarious situations, in this book, that I could hardly stop laughing. I think that the story itself is hilarious and the hijinks, that they all get into, kept me racing through the pages to find out what would happen next. You have to enjoy English humor to really appreciate how funny this really is. I am so grateful to a kind friend that brightened up my day by sending me a copy of it! I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it to all lovers of English humor!!

Hilarious!

I love P. G. Wodehouse and this is one of his best. With the combination of old Stoker( a father of Bertie's former engagement), Pauline (extremely likable American girl), and Brinkley( Bertie's temporary valet who's the opposite of Jeeves),this is a great book!!!!!! It also has the usual circumstance where Bertie gets into trouble and Jeeves bails him out. GREAT BOOK!

This book is a must read if you can stand books with a high "heat" content. Unlike the author's two previous books, this one is fairly lighthearted due to the characters of the hero/heroine. While there are some common historical romance memes in use the result is fresh, funny and enjoyable rather than cliched. Yes, you will enjoy! :)

With a play on Greek Myth, Gavin Hades is the owner of The Underworld, a gaming hell, and is seeking revenge against Percy (Persephone's) adopted brother Nick (see previous book). Trying to help, Percy goes to this gaming hell in an attempt to reason/negotiate with Gavin and the results are not at all what I expected. The chemistry between these two is hot and hilarious and although Gavin sets out to seduce Percy as part of his revenge, this doesn't last very long before he's so tangled and smitten revenge is the last thing on his mind.

Percy was not what I expected. She's described as a "hoyden" trying to mend her ways. Initially Gavin thinks she's a middle class girl with ambitions to marry into nobility and thus someone he can manipulate and blackmail. In reality she's impulsive and openhearted without being an idiot or a martyr. Percy wants to to write novels and is just perfect for Gavin who desperately needs Percy's lightheartedness. Gavin is the brooding hero type who provides the grounding and pragmatism Percy needs even while his whole world is turned upside down. Gavin surprised me too--he's loyal and lovely to Percy and knows what a gift she is.

You will love this book! Highly recommended!

Great sequel to the first one

I bought this book yesterday afternoon and finished it at 1 in the morning. I think this is a great book and a worthy sequel to the first one in the Mayhem in Mayfair series. Do I like it as much as the first one? No I don't but I would recommend it. I love both the characters. The chemistry they have together is actually really good and there are some sizzling scenes of them together. This book revolved around Percy's brother who has a gotten into some trouble with Gavin, who has some major troubles of his own (pertaining to revenge). Basically, Percy has to spend 6 nights with Gavin and if she resists his attempts at seduction, her brother owes him nothing. But Gavin seriously wants Percy AND he also wants to destroy her fathers company. I won't go into detail on that but the plot is really good.
What I didn't like was how fast Percy fell for Gavin. Really, after their first night, she all of a sudden realizes that she's beginning to fall in love with Gavin. I didn't really get that since Gavin is the kind of male hero that is troubled and has demons of his own. He's a survivor and ruthless in getting what he wants, especially if its revenge.
Some won't like this book but I did enjoy it and it kept me busy for an entire day. Read it and enjoy it.

Second Mayfair a worthy sequel

I really like Grace Calloway and this book did not disappoint. The first book was outstanding (Her Husband's Harlott). This was a fantastic followup and answered all the issues that were left hanging in the first. There was fantastic chemistry and suspense with really hot sex scenes. A good one.

I giggled all night long (quite literally I finished it at 4:30 am)

Once again I'm lost to Wilding Springs until the small hours of the morning and left bereft when I'm finished. What am I supposed to do until the next installment? Syd and her family are so familiar now that it's like catching up with an old friend. :-)

Although, I do not have any friends with a life as quite as exciting as part sidhe, part demon, part vampire, and all over super witch Sydlynn Hayle. She's already been through the typical coming to age teenage angst stuff. She's pushed everyone away and rejected the world around her. But this time the fate of the all magical planes rest on her helping someone else through theirs. A brother and sister whose destinies are greater than Syd's. One to save the world from destruction. The other to destroy it. Did you just get chills?

Once again were treated to Syd against the rest of the world with her usual tenacity and style. But she's also realizing the limitations of those around her, like her mom, her dad, the lack of willingness to act in matters which do not affect them, and she's seeking ways of protecting the coven rather than her reckless old ways.

It was nice to see her outgrow her predetermined destiny with Quaid, let him go and be happy. And I have to admit I'm definitely on board with vampire clan Sebastian as a love interest. If this is where the developments within Light and Shadow are going. What with Meira's Kidnapping and Syd's retrieval of the vampire essence she now carries inside to save him from it in past Hayle Coven Novels, they've had a long dramatic history and unlike Quaid, yummy Sebastian isn't bored with the action in Syd's life.

Love Syd! LOVE The Hayle Coven Novels. Excited about the pending release of the Queen of Darkness. :-)

NOT ONE DULL MOMENT IN THIS SERIES!

Every time I sit down with another Hayle Coven book, it is like going on a new, sometimes horrifying and sometimes hilariously funny, journey. Patti Larsen has a refreshingly unique and evermore exciting story to tell about Syd and co. This time Syd is plagued by dreams of war. No, not a guns and tanks war; a war fought with magic between ... oh, I think you have to read it to find out! Then there are the two children whom Syd is supposed to protect; that is if they would stop escaping and getting themselves and everybody else into trouble.

I thoroughly enjoyed Light and Shadow and used every free moment to indulge myself in the adventures of Syd, Sassafras, cute Sidhe gatekeeper Liam and Galleytrot, hound of the Wild Hunt. With all the action and nail-biting suspense and a story that moves forward all the time with never a dull moment, this is adrenalized reading at its best.

Syd's character development is masterfully advanced with every book. In Light and Shadow she has more self-confidence than ever before. She is learning how to use her considerable power wisely and handles snap decisions with remarkable maturity. When an old enemy surfaces who may be able to help Syd, she has to make a difficult choice; mercy or revenge. With her mother involved in counsel affairs, her father busy co-ruling Demonicon and her grandmother occupied with coven business, she is on her own. Syd's love life is also still rather confused but, despite the hurt and stress this causes her, she gets on with her very busy life and doesn't whine and mope about it.

I'm probably carrying on and on about Syd's balanced and responsible character here but this is the best character development I have ever encountered in a series. The characters in the Hayle Coven novels are not just characters, they are real persons.

I highly recommend Light and Shadow to all readers of paranormal books and I urge you to get the previous ten books to enjoy one of the best series ever. A standing ovation for this book and its highly gifted creator! (Ellen Fritz)

I'm Not Even Sure Why This Is So Good, It Just Is

Patti Larsen has become one of my favorite authors, and one of the ones who I stalk until she releases another book in the series. The Hayle Coven series is just one of the best of all time. I don't care if it's categorized as YA, or whatever, it's just so good, there's no denying it. I will read anything she writes, I don't care what it is. Especially if it has Sassafras in it. Her characters are worth caring about, and they have enough flesh to know whether or not you care. I don't usually buy stories about witches -- it seems kind of juvenile. But . . . her stories are riveting. Her characters seem essential to me, in my literary life. I know I'm not exactly reviewing this particular book, but it's part of the whole. This series stands apart from the normal stuff you buy, some of which is free, and therefore, good. Yay free. BUY THIS SERIES. You have to start at the beginning. Don't worry -- it's really worth it.
