The Life Of Chyna Black

At 15, Chyna Black is young, beautiful growing up in the hood. Along with street smarts she is a very intelligent and has school smarts as well. Chasing that almighty dollar is every young woman's dream and its no different for Chyna, Asia, and Brooke; the best of friends, sportin' the latest fashions.

Chyna meets and falls for Tyreik, a brother from the streets who's on that paper chase. Riding the latest whips, bling blingin', and making more money then he know what to do with, they both get caught up in a whirlwind relationship. With any relationship there is the ups and downs of being in love. The question is will there togetherness be strong enough to survive the turmoil that's about to brew.

Chyna Black is a life learning story, that I couldn't seem to put down. Some of things that were happening in this novel is still going on today with our youth. Things we experience as young women and men, we have to take from those learning lessons and make better choices with our lives.

i loved it. it wasnt better than "TORN" but this was definitely a good read. CHYNA SEEMED SO REAL.I READ THIS AS SOON AS I GOT OFF WORK AND I WAS DONE WITHIN A FEW HOURS. Short Stories From Ole Louis Lamour

Lamour serves up a great set of short stories. Actually, this book was my first return to reading after I gave up on the activity during my teenage years. The stories are great in that they do not require a whole great commitment to the individual who would like to read them, as well as those who do not want to wade through a story and its subplots. The old frontiersmen said that you could learn a lot about a man when tracking him. And as the six men of the posse pursue Chat Lock through the desert they learn a great deal about him. Is he the sort of man to shoot a man in the back? But they have a job to do, and a hanging to see to.

This is another great Louis L’Amour (1909-88) book – the characters are all real men, tough but human. No cows or cattle drives in this book, but what it does have is good action and good drama. If you like Western fiction, you will like this book, I know I did!

Whanne that Aprille with his shoures soote

The Prologue is the summarized essence of ' The Canterbury Tales' It contains the descriptions of the pilgrims who are to each ideally tell two tales . Chaucer never completes this plan but he does in the prologue give us wonderful character sketches of everyone from the ideally virtuous Knight to the scandalous Wife of Bath . These small portraits outline clearly what is to come but in themselves reveal the world of the Tales . The Prologue is filled with humor and piety, with sacrasm and wit, with beauty of language and harsh social criticism.

It is the microcosm of the whole set of Tales which are to come. A masterpiece though marred to my mind as the whole work is by the Nun Prioress and her unfortunate blood- libel tale.

Interesting Storyline...

Red Hood and the Outlaws #1 “Dark Trinity Part 1: Fathers and Sons” (Released Monthly)

The Red Hood aka Jason Todd has staged an assassination attempt of the mayor to gain the trust of the criminal underground, to infiltrate who is actually behind the plague of the techno-organic virus. As he continues his investigations, his findings constantly lead him back to the Black Mask and now the Red Hood has to try and bring down the Black Mask “by the book” as he has promised Batman that he would. As the Red Hood gains Black Mask’s trust, he finds out that the Black Mask wants the Red Hood to be his “heir” as he has no children of his own. But before Black Mask has the Red Hood join his ranks, he wants to test the Hood’s loyalty to see if he would be worthy to inherit his criminal empire.

This Red Hood seems more tame than previous incarnations in this book, as he has a problem killing criminals. Todd even goes out of his way to say that Black Mask killing his own men in “cold blood” was “harsh” even for him. I thought killing criminals was his MO! Also it seemed weird that the Black Mask would make him in charge of his operations when Todd refused to execute his own men out of failing a mission. Wouldn’t the Black Mask be suspicious of Todd after he refused to execute someone? I am thinking that the Red Hood’s past of committing murder several times in the past is the reason that the Black Mask would still choose to believe him, but I thought Black Mask chose to trust the Red Hood too readily.

I like the flashback sequences because whole scene will be colored in black and white, but his hoodie would be colored in red. It seems the creative team really want the color red to stick with the Red Hood and the art direction seems to be spot on. I have never seen any of Soy’s art before, and it seems for the most part his artwork is great, but some panels seem disproportionate or lacking any real originality. Still some of his spreads are great, like the one where the Red Hood is going through a window while saving Ma.

The covers for this book seem to indicate that the Outlaws will be Bizarro and Artemis, and I am curious how Lobdell will incorporate them into the team. Lobdell has done some amazing work on the X-Men so I know that he can handle a team book, so a three member team should be easy for him. Because of the writer and his pedigree and the interesting cast of characters I am interested in checking out issue #2.

My introduction to the reborn Jason Todd and I liked it

In 'Red Hood and the Outlaws #1' by Scott Lobdell with art by Dexter Soy, we get a lot of Red Hood, and not so much of the Outlaws, but I'm sure they will be along soon.

Jason Todd, who I remember having been killed by the Joker once, has been back as the Red Hood. In this reboot, we go back to Jason's beginnings at Ma Gunn's School for Wayward Boys and the day Batman came to visit. We return to the present where Red Hood is rescuing Ma Gunn, but we aren't sure why at first. Jason still plays rough, but we see that he learned a few things during his time with Batman.

I haven't read any Red Hood before, so I found the character interesting. I would definitely try more. I liked the writing and the art. He's a bit of a brooding character, but his flaws make him a bit intriguing.

I received a review copy of this issue from DC Entertainment and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to read this issue.

Wow just wow, this might be my favorite rebirth comic yet. Wasn't sure how the red hood and outlaws storyline would be played out but this is a perfect startup. Batman encounters red hood, trying to murder the mayor and he fails to stop him. It also plays well with the Death in the Family as well as Under the Red Hood story lines, I think it was cool seeing people interacting with Red hood and playing off the rumors of Joker being being the first red hood, glad they kept that in the rebirth. Overall great read, fantastic art 8.5/10.0

An honest telling of one man's de-conversion from religion.

I have read many of the more popular, well known atheist authors from Dan Barker's "Godless" to Ayaan Hirsi Ali's "Infidel" and their personal stories of struggling with religious believe, their doubt and their difficult personal journey, down the path from devoutly religious to freeing themselves, from religious faith and dogma and becoming non-believers. Seth's own story is no less compelling reading and just as emotional and moving.

"Deconverted: A Journey from Religion to Reason" is a well written autobiography told with humour and heart by an "average" person. It is the story lived by many thousands of people in America and around the World, every day. This story could very well be your story of doubt and loss of religious faith.

I think this book will be an insightful read for both the non-believer and the faithful. Those doubting their religious faith and the irrational religious dogma, will find solace in knowing that it is indeed ok to question one's religious faith and what you have been instructed to think by your Parents, Pastors and Priests.
The Faithful will gain an understanding in simple terms, as to why their loved ones and friends can and do quit their faith and turn away from religious dogma.

The reader will receive a first hand account of the experience of someone, who was raised in a very Christian home by loving, devout Christian parents in a majority Christian community, in the belt buckle of the Bible belt of Mid Western America and who, as an adult began to question his religious faith.

The Believer who has doubts, will be able to relate to Seth and his story on a personal level. Seth had those same doubts about his faith, as you do and began to ask the difficult questions, started thinking for himself and finally followed where logic, common sense and reality, not faith, indoctrination and traditional ancient dogma, lead him.. To Reason!

Seth Andrews, the man who gave us The Thinking Atheist, knows Christianity. He was raised in it, worked in it professionally spreading its message across the airwaves, and finally reached a crossroads where his faith could not stand against the occurrences of this world. So many of us who have been on similar journeys can identify with what Seth has to say, and yet learn some insights that we may have not considered. His story is heart breaking. This is not the story of someone who faced one tragedy and threw it all away; most walking away from faith stories aren't. Not only does he share his story, but he also addresses common questions from Christians and answers them; what else from "The Thinking Atheist"? To those unfamiliar with Seth Andrews and his website/podcast/youtube page The Thinking Atheist, it may sound as if he is being condescending or arrogant. Nothing of the sort. In his words, the name "simply reflects the fact that my own liberation came when I stopped assuming and broke the chain of inherited belief through reason, curiosity and common sense. My freedom came when I began thinking for myself."

"Deconverted" is a great read, not very long, yet very powerful. It's not just an atheist story, but a human one. It does more than take us one on man's journey through emotional ups and downs; it makes us think.

Seth shows his courage in his search for the truth

Seth, like most atheists I know, did not make his decision lightly. His book tells his readers where his quest for the truth took him. I have followed Seth since his beginning into atheism and found his book to show his, honesty, compassion, courage and wit. I highly recommend this book. I started reading it and couldn't put it down until I finished it.
