Once in This Lifetime

This is a good story and I love that it was an inspirational and interracial romance. I enjoyed reading it, but felt that it lack something; when I read a book I like when the characters are still dancing around in my head long after I have finished reading the book and I did not get that with this book. I do appreciate Ms. Manie for writing an inspirational and interracial romance, it is so hard to find these types of romance novels.

Brigette Maine is becoming one of my favorite author's. I have not been disappointed in any of her books. I loved John the hero for the way he treated Julia after the way her first husband had treated her. He showed her how a man should treat the woman he loved. On to book three.

Sensual Christian Romance

I would probably have given this book a 4 rating if not for all the sensuality. For a Christian romance there was way too much heavy petting and kissing. For two people who believe in no sex until marriage they continuously put themselves in situations where there is strong temptation to have sex.
While I liked it enough to buy another book from this author I am hoping for more next time. Like another reviewer said I walked away feeling a little empty with some ambivalence about the characters, especially the H. He started off the relationship by lying to the h; and stated several times that he was immediately drawn to her because of her looks - hardly Christian values. It was disappointing to see that even a Christian wasn't prepared to take the time to look past the surface to the woman beneath. From the story line it seems that if he hadn't found her beautiful he wouldn't have bothered with her. So the initial sense you get of him is pretty shallow; then he has the nerve to get angry when after telling her twice in less than 24 hours that he wanted her as soon as he saw her and she replies that she doesn't do sleep overs. He is upset that she would question his values like that - of course he doesn't believe in sex before marriage and what has he done to make her question his values? - I don't know maybe starting off the relationship with lies? The H does grow on you as the story advances and show himself to be a pretty stand up guy.
My only other problem with the story is that the characters are second advent believers; the author spends a lot of time talking about religion and quoting scripture but she never explains what makes SABs different from the "standard" Christians.
